About Mark Broughton – Owner & Founder of K9 Operations Dog Training

Hi, my name is Mark Broughton, and I am the owner and founder of K9 Operations Dog Training. At 25 years old, I have nearly two years of dog training experience, but my journey into the world of dog training has been anything but conventional. I served as a 91Foxtrot Small Arms and Light Towed Artillery Repairman in the Army for 2 years and 8 months. While it may seem unusual to go from fixing weapons to training dogs, it’s a transition that brings me peace and purpose.
After leaving the military, I found myself homeless in West Virginia, struggling to regain my footing. During this difficult time, I was diagnosed with Non-combat related PTSD, and my doctor suggested that I consider getting a service dog to help with my recovery. I reached out to Von Mullins Shepherds in West Virginia, where I was able to find Xerxes, a German Shepherd who became my companion and source of support. Although the VA refused to assist me in getting Xerxes professionally trained, I learned that I could train him myself. This sparked my passion for dog training.
I discovered that while the ADA doesn’t require service dogs to undergo professional training, they must be trained to perform specific tasks that help their handler. This realization not only gave me the tools to train Xerxes, but it also gave me a sense of purpose. I understood the difficulty of transitioning back into civilian life after the military, and I wanted to help others, especially veterans, who might be going through similar struggles.
In August of last year, I decided to leave West Virginia and move to Green Bay, Wisconsin, to start my business, K9 Operations Dog Training. My goal is to help others, particularly veterans, who are seeking to build strong, trusting relationships with their dogs. The bond between a dog and their handler can be life-changing, and I want to provide veterans with not only a trained companion but also the support and guidance to help them heal and thrive.
Xerxes gave me a reason to live, and he continues to be my motivation every day. I’ve learned firsthand how powerful it can be to have a dog that provides emotional support and helps you find your purpose. At K9 Operations, we’re more than just dog trainers—we’re here to make a real difference in people’s lives.
Whether you’re a veteran looking for support, a dog owner seeking a stronger connection with your pet, or someone in need of guidance, I’m here to help you Unleash the Potential in your dog and yourself.

Mark has done great training my step son on how to train his dog….he is very knowledgeable and answers questions right away…I have also never had a problem getting ahold of him if questions come up outside the training sessions…he also last minute met us at the dog park because it was the first time we brought her and I wanted to make sure we entered the park the right way to keep our dog and other dogs safe it went great.

Working with K9 Operations and Mark has been a miracle for me and my dog. My rescue German Sheperd has struggled with aggression for years and has had help from a number of expensive trainers with no success. Mark was able to teach me key techniques that have successfully calmed and stabilized my dog. His coaching has given me confidence as an owner to challenge myself and my dog to do better and be better. His services are affordable. He is able to be reached between sessions. He drives 2 hours to our sessions. And Mark is all around a great guy to work with. Highly recommend.
